Arabat by Clive Barker, Hardcover
Book notes / January 7, 2018

Date range read: December 2017- Jan 2018 Picked up at Will Durant Public Library, Hollywood What an absolutely gorgeous volume, who glossy, heavy paper carries beautifully suggestive color illustrations by the author to embellish but never overpower the wonderful imagery he creates with the writing. Each chapter plays like a new thought experiment, but are linked one to the next in a weaving twisting yarn. This is not a horror novel, as might be expected from the creator of Hellraiser, but rather a whimsical, perhaps only sometimes slightly macabre comedic and mythic fable. So nice to hold this tome in my hands – the tactile nature is a major component of its virtue.

Hard Magic: Book One of the Grimnoir Chronicles

Format Audible, Unabridged Read by Bronson Pinchot So this is what a Michael Bay movie reads like I feel like Im hanging out with a room of six-year-olds negotiating who shot who with a nerf dart first. I persist because I desperately want to be entertained for entertaiment’s sake. I figured this interesting mashup of hard noir and fantasy might align with A Wolf Among Us or the very au currant Bright – that Netflix movie where orcs live and work among the Los Angeles Police Dept. Like the character of the little anthropomorphized mouse with a tough past Production notes Pinchot of gives a great performance, by the way.
